Product Description
Perfect for silver collectors and lovers of hand engraved antiques, come see this genuine 1816 sterling silver vinaigrette in the form of a purse by artist I.S (John Shaw) marked Birmingham.
These boxes were, as the name implies, designed to hold vinegar during travel, except instead of a dressing for salads, this vinegar was scented and used as perfume.
As both perfume and silver vinaigrette were expensive in the early 1800s, only those of a higher social class held one of these items. Now, 200 years later, they are considered a highly desirable collectable for both antique collectors and silver investors.
Measure 4cm x 2.5cm.
Note: Missing grill.
