Product Description
A magnificent display of colour and craftsmanship, this rare Northwood carnival glass bowl captures the beauty of the early 20th century, with its glowing marigold iridescence and wonderfully detailed peacock surrounded by flowers and foliage.
Dating to circa 1900–1910, this striking American pressed glass bowl features Northwood's celebrated Peacock on Urn pattern. A beautifully modelled peacock takes centre stage beneath a decorative urn overflowing with flowers, while an elaborate arrangement of leaves and blossoms extends across the bowl. Its deeply ruffled, scalloped rim adds movement and elegance, while the shimmering surface reveals flashes of amber, gold, pink and soft green as the light changes.
Measuring approximately 22cm wide, this beautiful example reflects the artistry of Harry Northwood, whose glassworks in Wheeling, West Virginia, became renowned for their innovative colours and distinctive carnival glass patterns. Today, Northwood's peacock designs remain particularly appealing to collectors of early American decorative glass.
A lovely piece to display on a sideboard, occasional table or within a glass collection, where its intricate design and remarkable iridescence can be fully appreciated.
