Product Description
A beautiful piece of Australian glassmaking history, this Crown Crystal carnival glass master bowl captures the rich golden iridescence and intricate naturalistic decoration that made early carnival glass so admired.
Dating to circa 1920s, this impressive bowl features the distinctive Cuckoo Shrike pattern, with a beautifully detailed bird at its centre, surrounded by an elaborate arrangement of native-inspired foliage, delicate berries and sweeping branches. The shimmering marigold finish reveals flashes of gold, amber, pink and soft green as the light moves across its surface, while the finely crimped, scalloped rim adds a wonderfully decorative finishing touch.
Produced by Australia's Crown Crystal Glass Company, this lovely example reflects the popularity of carnival glass during the early 20th century, when Australian manufacturers created their own distinctive patterns inspired by the natural world.
Measuring approximately 24cm in diameter, this generously proportioned master bowl would make a striking centrepiece on a dining table, sideboard or occasional table. It is also an appealing addition to a collection of Australian decorative glass and early carnival glass.
Each piece in our collection carries the subtle marks of time, adding to its authenticity and charm. Any notable details are thoughtfully included in the description and imagery. Should you wish to see more, we are always happy to assist.
