A beautiful reminder of the elegance and artistry of the Edwardian era, this exceptional William Moorcroft Florian Ware vase captures a moment in British ceramic history when craftsmanship and nature-inspired design came together in perfect harmony. Created for James Macintyre & Co. around 1908, it is a particularly appealing example of Moorcroft's early work, long before he established his own pottery.
Standing an impressive 28cm tall, the vase has a wonderfully graceful silhouette, with a slender waist rising to a gently rounded upper section and a beautifully shaped lower body. Delicate blue forget-me-nots form trailing floral swags across the creamy white glaze, while the lower section is decorated with charming pink roses, green foliage and rich gilt detailing. The hand-painted decoration, together with the subtle raised outlines and touches of gold, reflects the flowing naturalism of the Art Nouveau movement.
The vase bears both William Moorcroft's signature and the Macintyre factory stamp to the underside, an important feature for collectors of early Moorcroft pottery. There is some age-related crazing to the glaze, consistent with its considerable age, but the vase remains in beautiful antique condition.
