An unusual find for the Moorcroft collector, this 1928 Leaf and Berries vase combines one of William Moorcroft’s classic designs with the distinctive character of salt glazing. Decorated in rich autumnal tones, broad leaves and clusters of berries wrap around its beautifully rounded form.
Salt glazing is a traditional technique in which salt is introduced into the kiln during firing, reacting with the clay to create a distinctive surface with subtle variations in texture and finish.
Measuring 17 cm tall x 19 cm wide, the vase bears William Moorcroft’s full script signature and is dated 1928. A wonderful addition to a collection of Moorcroft or British art pottery.

Perhaps I was chosen from the window of a fine china and pottery shop in 1928, my warm autumnal colours catching the eye of someone searching for something rather special for their home. I may have been bought to mark an anniversary, a birthday, or simply because my new owner could not leave without me.
For many years I might have stood proudly on a polished timber sideboard in the sitting room, surrounded by family photographs and treasured objects gathered over a lifetime. I would have witnessed afternoon visitors, Sunday gatherings and the changing fashions of the decades, while my leaves and berries remained much as William Moorcroft intended them.
