Product Description
A refined study of movement and colour. This antique Limoges porcelain plate, dating to the 1890s and retailed by Dr. A Salvati, features a hand-painted fish scene set against a soft, fluid background, framed by a deep cobalt blue border and gold trim.
The decoration is consistent with late 19th century Limoges work, with careful brushwork evident in the fish and surrounding foliage. These plates were produced in a series, with this example one of nine different fish designs, reflecting the period’s interest in both natural history and decorative tableware.Measuring approximately 24cm in diameter, the plate presents well, with condition consistent with age. An elegant example of hand-painted Limoges porcelain.
Each piece in our collection carries the subtle marks of time, adding to its authenticity and charm. Any notable details are thoughtfully included in the description and imagery. Should you wish to see more, we are always happy to assist.
If this piece could talk, it would speak of carefully set tables, considered presentation, and the quiet refinement of late nineteenth-century dining. Hand-painted with great attention to detail, plates such as these would once have formed part of elegant meals where entertaining was treated as both ritual and art.
One can imagine them brought out for intimate dinners and special occasions, their finely painted fish motifs reflecting the era’s appreciation for craftsmanship, hospitality and decorative beauty at the table.
Today, they remain not only beautiful examples of Limoges porcelain artistry, but also evocative reminders of a time when even the smallest details of dining were approached with care and refinement.
