Product Description

Clarice Cliff Fantasque “Balloon Trees” beehive honeypot, dating to the 1930s and recognised as one of the most iconic and sought-after designs of the Art Deco period.

The softly rounded beehive form is brought to life with the joyful Balloon Trees pattern, where stylised foliage and landscape are rendered in bold, vibrant colour. The design carries a strong sense of movement and optimism, reflecting a time when everyday objects were infused with imagination and artistic intent.

Measuring approximately 7.5cm in height to the top of the bee finial, the piece is petite in scale yet visually striking. Its compact form enhances its decorative appeal, making it ideal for display within a collection of Clarice Cliff ceramics or as a standalone accent. A small chip is present, as shown in images 5 and 6. This has been thoughtfully reflected in the price, ensuring the piece remains an accessible example of this highly collectible design. Additional images are available upon request.

Examples from the Fantasque range remain among the most admired within Clarice Cliff’s body of work, with pieces such as this continuing to attract collectors for both their artistic expression and enduring design significance.

If this piece could talk, it may once have recalled resting upon a sunlit breakfast table, brought out during quieter moments and everyday rituals where colour and design were woven into daily life. Its playful beehive form and distinctive Clarice Cliff styling reflect a period when even functional household objects were created with imagination and personality.

Pieces such as this brought warmth and character into the home, balancing practicality with the bold artistic spirit that came to define British Art Deco ceramics during the early twentieth century.

Today, the honey pot remains not only a charming example of Clarice Cliff design, but also a lasting reminder of the optimism, creativity and lightness of spirit that shaped the era.
