Product Description
Symbolising confidence, prosperity and good fortune in Chinese culture, this beautifully carved Chinese green hardstone rooster is a striking decorative sculpture dating from approximately 1950–1970. Standing 10 cm tall, the piece displays finely detailed plumage with a softly translucent finish that allows the natural variations within the stone to gently catch the light.
Expertly carved from a single piece of green hardstone, the rooster is portrayed in an alert, proud stance with flowing tail feathers, a finely defined comb and delicately incised feathering that highlights the skill of the carver. The subtle tonal variations within the stone enhance its sculptural form, making it equally appealing as a collector's object or as an elegant decorative accent within the home.
The sculpture presents beautifully, with only a few tiny flea-bite nicks to the rear claw and tail, which are difficult to notice and entirely consistent with age. It remains a charming example of mid-century Chinese hardstone carving, offering both decorative appeal and cultural symbolism.
Each piece in our collection carries the subtle marks of time, adding to its authenticity and charm. Any notable details are thoughtfully included in the description and imagery. Should you wish to see more, we are always happy to assist.
