A striking pair of vintage Murano Sommerso glass geese, handcrafted on the Venetian island of Murano circa 1960s. Each elegant bird is formed in clear crystal glass with deep emerald-green and rich amethyst hues suspended inside using the celebrated Sommerso (“submerged”) technique, which layers colours within clear glass to create depth and brilliance.
Standing approximately 26 cm and 23 cm tall, the geese display graceful curved necks and fine detailing that catch and refract the light. These sculptures reflect the post-war Murano tradition of mid-century art glass, when designers such as Flavio Poli and Archimede Seguso perfected the Sommerso method to achieve vibrant colour contrasts and flowing organic forms.
Condition: one goose bears a small chip to the underside of the tail, (see image 3) not visible when displayed and not affecting overall stability or aesthetic. The pair remains a beautiful example of collectible Italian art glass and a timeless accent for contemporary or classic interiors.
