A remarkable miniature gathering, this vintage Chinese Shiwan pottery group captures seven scholars in individually hand-modelled scenes, each figure standing only around 3 cm tall.
Purchased in Hong Kong during the 1970s, the tiny mudmen are modelled in traditional robes and arranged across a purpose-made stepped hardwood display stand. Several are depicted seated together in small conversational scenes, while others sit alone, giving the entire group the feeling of a miniature scholarly gathering. The figures measure approximately 3 cm tall, with the hardwood stand measuring 31 cm x 5 cm.
A fascinating addition to a collection of Chinese pottery, miniature figures or Asian decorative arts, and a wonderful gift for a collector. Its long, low profile makes it particularly effective displayed on a bookshelf, desk, console or within a glass cabinet.
