Product Description

Some carvings are admired for their craftsmanship, while others are treasured for the story they tell. This finely hand-carved antique Japanese ivory netsuke depicts Jurojin, the God of Longevity and one of Japan's revered Seven Lucky Gods, portrayed carrying his characteristic staff while holding an elegant fan.

Standing approximately 5 cm high, Jurojin is beautifully carved with a serene expression, flowing beard and traditional robes enhanced with subtle green and natural stained details. His staff, a symbol of wisdom and long life, complements the fan, which represents refinement and good fortune. Signed by the artist, this charming miniature displays the delicate craftsmanship and warm aged patina that collectors value in genuine antique ivory netsuke.

Originally worn as practical toggles with the traditional kimono, netsuke evolved into highly collectible miniature works of art. Figures of Jurojin continue to be especially admired for both their exceptional artistry and their enduring symbolism of health, wisdom and longevity.
