Product Description
A moment of elegance from a more formal age. This WMF Art Nouveau tray, circa 1906, features a flowing design with a sculptural female figure entwined with grapevine and foliage, characteristic of the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style.
Produced by Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) and marked A.K & CIE, the Austrian branch, the form and detailing are consistent with early 20th century production. Model No.252, it is crafted in silver plated pewter, a material widely used at the time for both decorative and functional tableware.
Measuring approximately 29cm, trays of this kind were used for presenting visiting cards in the home, typically placed in an entry or receiving room. The surface shows wear to the silver plating consistent with age, with areas of the underlying material visible and as shown in images. A well-preserved example of WMF’s Art Nouveau work.
We endeavour to provide accurate information on all items; however, as these are antique and vintage pieces, variations and signs of age are to be expected and form part of their character. Please contact us if you would like further details or additional photos prior to purchase.
If this piece could talk, it would speak of quiet arrivals, introductions at the doorway, and the rituals of early 20th century society.
