Rich with age and quiet character, this long strand of vintage Buddhist prayer beads has the tactile beauty that comes from natural materials polished through time and handling.
Dating to approximately the 1940s–1960s, the strand comprises 53 polished natural seed or nut beads in a deep reddish-brown tone, each individually knotted onto cord. Measuring approximately 107 cm long, the generous strand has a wonderfully sculptural quality and can be appreciated both for its association with Buddhist devotional practice and as an interesting example of vintage Asian craftsmanship.
A fascinating addition to a collection of Asian or Buddhist artefacts, the beads would also display beautifully coiled in a decorative bowl, arranged on a console or cabinet, or incorporated into a collection of objects gathered from different cultures.
