Dating from approximately 1840–1870, the black lacquered case is richly decorated with gold gilt scrollwork and highly iridescent mother-of-pearl and abalone shell floral motifs.
Measuring approximately 10 × 8 cm, the case features a fitted hinged cover and a striking arrangement of flowers, fruit and decorative scrolls that shimmer in shades of turquoise, violet, pink and green as they catch the light. Minor age-related wear is present, consistent with its considerable age and delicate construction.
