Rich with symbolism and remarkable glassmaking detail, this limited-edition Chinese liuli art glass vessel, titled The Five Blessings of Auspiciousness, was created by artisan studio Ya Shi Liu Li and is individually numbered 589 of an edition of 4,800.
Created using the traditional lost-wax casting method, the substantial cylindrical vessel has a wonderfully luminous, iridescent surface that shifts through golden amber, green, blue and deeper jewel tones as the light changes. Raised sculptural decoration includes a prominently modelled zodiac tiger together with other auspicious imagery, while the Greek-key-style border around the rim gives the piece a particularly striking architectural finish.
Rather than being purely decorative, the imagery draws upon the long Chinese tradition of incorporating auspicious symbols into objects for the home. The concept of the “Five Blessings” has deep roots in Chinese culture and is associated with wishes for a fortunate and fulfilled life.
