Product Description
This exceptional signed Emile Gallé cameo glass vase, dating circa 1905–1910, stands 16.5cm high and represents the refined artistry of the French Art Nouveau movement at its height. Executed in Gallé’s celebrated layered cameo technique, elegant iris blossoms and flowing foliage in deep purple have been acid-etched through a contrasting overlay to reveal a softly frosted blue ground beneath. The graduated tonality intensifies toward the base, creating atmospheric depth and enhancing the naturalistic design.
The iris was a favoured Art Nouveau motif, symbolising both elegance and transience, and Gallé’s interpretation captures the organic movement and poetic sensibility for which his work is internationally renowned. The gently tapering form and balanced proportions give the vase sculptural presence, while the signature confirms its authenticity and desirability among collectors of fine French art glass.
At 16.5cm in height, it is ideally suited for display on a mantelpiece, refined console, or within a curated cabinet of museum-quality glass. When positioned in natural light, the layered hues and etched detailing are brought beautifully to life.
