Product Description

This striking Chinese Shiwan pottery vase dates to the mid-20th century and features a beautifully modelled relief of a bird perched on a lotus stem with bud and leaf. Standing approximately 33cm tall, the vase is finished in a rich, flowing cobalt and sapphire blue glaze, contrasted by soft jade and celadon greens to the lotus stem and leaf, with delicate blush pink and creamy white tones highlighting the lotus bud. The bird is rendered in gentle turquoise and green hues with fine detailing to the beak and feet, adding charm and movement to the composition.

Crafted in glazed earthenware and marked to the base, this piece reflects the Shiwan tradition of expressive naturalistic forms and vibrant glazes, making it both a decorative object and a collectible example of post-war Chinese pottery.

How It Can Be Used Today: Placed as a standalone decorative accent, this piece adds colour, texture, and a sense of story to a shelf, console, or sideboard, blending beautifully with both classic and contemporary interiors.

If This Piece Could Talk: This vase would speak of quiet mornings in a sunlit room, where lotus flowers symbolise renewal and birds bring messages of peace. It has watched changing interiors come and go, always carrying a sense of calm and balance. Its glazes hold the memory of skilled hands shaping clay into something both joyful and serene.
