Richly detailed despite its intimate scale, this circa 1900 Chinese gilt bronze Buddhist figure is a beautifully cast piece, from the elaborate crown to the intricate decoration of the robes and lotus-form base.
The seated figure wears an ornate crown and finely detailed jewelled robes, holding ritual attributes in the hands and resting upon a decorative lotus base. The warm gilt surface accentuates the remarkably detailed casting and gives the figure considerable presence.
Measuring approximately 11 cm tall, the underside retains a sealed plate decorated with a double vajra motif, an important Buddhist symbol traditionally associated with spiritual strength and stability. A wonderful addition to a collection of Asian art, Buddhist objects or gilt bronze sculpture.
